Welcome to the FinOps Foundation's New York group! Stop by and (digitally) meet some neighbors who are actively working to save money in the cloud (or hope to be soon).
What is FinOps, you ask? From the FinOps.org website:
FinOps is the operating model for the cloud, which is resulting in a shift that combines systems, best practices and culture to increase an organization’s ability to understand cloud costs and make informed business decisions. FinOps increases the business value of cloud by bringing together technology, business and finance professionals with a new set of practices and standards around cloud financial management.
Agenda:
7:00 - Introductions
7:15 - Talk "Challenges of Cloud Cost Optimization and Infrastructure As Code" by Michael Fonseca of HashiCorp
7:45 - Questions
8-8:30 - Open discussion/Networking
About the Talk: Engineers are becoming the new cloud financial controllers as finance teams begin to lose some of their direct control over new fast-paced, on-demand infrastructure consumption models driven by cloud. One of the main challenges faced today is a disconnect between Finance and the cloud optimization recommendations that they receive and the actual execution/implementation of those changes within the infrastructure by Engineering which can be compounded by the complexity of Infrastructure as Code (IaC). We will explore some of the people, process, and technologies for implementing cloud cost optimization for IaC.
Can't make this event? No worries! We meet on the forth Tuesday of every month.
